Ron Dilley, 78, has been living on Needham Avenue in Kent for more than 50 years. With the developments downtown, the retired high school teacher feels there isn’t enough reasonable parking.

“Not that I can’t walk, but I don’t really want to walk ten blocks to eat,” Dilley says.

His neighbor, Bill Quinn, however, believes the growth in downtown is “the best thing that Kent’s allowed to happen to the city.” Instead, Quinn worries about college students living on his street. About ten minutes from the university, Quinn believes he and his family shouldn’t be bothered by loud neighbors.

William Craig lives down the street and as a landlord, he shares Quinn’s concern with college students, but rather for the way they treat his property. He often finds that more residents live in his homes than those who’ve signed the lease.

Craig has five children, two grandchildren and one on the way. His top priority is local education.

“Education is very important to me and Kent does have a good school system,” Craig says.
