Construction continues

Construction is not yet completed on the West Main Street bridge in downtown Kent.

While the bridge was slated for repairs to begin June 16 and to be finished 75 days later, it is more than two weeks past the expected completion date.

Project Manager Anthony Zumbo said the reason for the extension is because the repairs that needed to be done to the bridge were worse than anticipated.

Zumbo also said that although the bridge is going past its expected completion deadline, so far the funding for the bridge has not passed its allotted amount.

“If we run out of federal funds and hit that cap, then the remaining funds would be 100% local,” said Zumbo.

Zumbo said the repairs should be done in October.
