Change for Downtown Kent
Anchor Intro:
New parking meters are set to go in downtown Kent after City Council approved to purchase high-tech parking meters back in January. TV2’s Alison Reilly took a closer look at the plan and how this will affect downtown businesses in Kent.
VO:
“This plan is bringing back 225 meters in hopes to help Kent’s downtown businesses that need close customer parking for shorter periods of time. Kent City Manager Dave Ruller refers to the new meters as ‘quarters for commerce.’ The new meters will take coins, debit and credit cards, and are the same meters used on Kent State’s campus, offering flexible time limits. The City of Kent is still finalizing the details for this new system, but expect rates to be around one dollar an hour. Owner of McKay Bricker Framing & Black Squirrel Gifts, Bob Mayfield, explains how this change will affect businesses downtown.”
