Downtown Kent Safety

Anchor lead: College towns with bar scenes typically have some crime over the weekend and Kent is no different. TV2’s Brian Ivey looks at the safety of Downtown Kent after a recent assault took place.

A Kent State communications major was assaulted outside Bar 145 after a verbal altercation took place. The student, who did not want to be named or appear on camera, suffered facial lacerations, a chipped tooth, and bruises after he was punched. Kent assault and safety.Still001

The suspect, Ryan Dunkle, fled in a taxi cab, but was arrested shortly after. Watch the video to get more details on the assault and hear from, Kent Police Department Lt. Jim Prusha on what is being done to prevent crime in Kent.

Prusha did say that everything is being done with the current budget to try and prevent crime.

“As far as additional patrol, the only way that is going to happen is if we have additional cops,” Prusha said. “Which means pay more taxes, so that will probably not happen.”
