Heroin increases in access, forms
The Ohio Department of Health reports that in 2014, unintentional heroin overdoses reached an all time high. The death toll hit 1,117 last year, accounting for 47 percent of deaths. Tyler Trill has more on the increase in access to the drug, as well as the forms heroin comes in.
Drug chemists also attribute the increases in deaths to fentanyl. Fentanyl is a drug commonly cut with heroin, which chemists say is much more potent than typical heroin and easier to overdose on.
