President Trump said Tuesday afternoon during a Fox News virtual townhall news conference that he wants to have the United States economy up and running by Easter.

Trump was joined at the Rose Garden alongside his coronavirus taskforce, he said that by “turning the country off” will only just cause more hysteria and a continued economic downfall. He said that he wants the economy to be back in full swing as quickly as possible and hopes to reevaluate the 15-day guideline as soon as that comes. This comes shortly after Vice President Mike Pence said in the interview that the virus outbreak can last up from 10 weeks to a couple of months.

“I worry if the U.S. will see “suicides by the thousands” if coronavirus devastates the economy,” Trump said during the interview.

He compared the virus to automobile accidents and how it kills thousands of people each year and that doesn’t mean you shut down the automobile companies. During the interview, Trump said that our country was not built to be shut down and heavenly emphasized the need to reopen businesses. Social distancing and people returning to work can be done at the same time by altering habits.

“We are not going to let the cure be worse than the problem,” Trump said during the interview.

The president also said that he and his administration has at no point considered a nation-wide shut down like some states have done. He said that the government has sent over 2,000 ventilators from the national stockpile to the state of New York. He was eager to announce that his team is working hard on distributing millions of masks to hard-hit areas. He also called on the Senate to pass a stimulus bill that is still continued to be debated between the Senate Minority Leader and the Treasury Secretary. He canceled the deal last night because Nancy Pelosi, was demanding more stipulations for the for the bill to be passed. He said that that she was wanting to put in a lot of things that had nothing to do with workers.

Although, Trump is rearing to get people back to work as the economy is taking a toll, medical experts are conflicted with it by calling for more social restrictions to help slow down the spread of the coronavirus. When asked if Dr. Anthony Fauci, an expert in infectious diseases, agrees with Trump’s decision to move quickly and get the economy back to normal, he said that he does not agree with the idea.

“Our country will soon be open for business,” said Trump during the interview.
