Two detrimental levies up for renewal for the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District
When citizens of portage county head to the polls to cast their ballots for this year’s Nov. 3 election, they will see two renewal levies on the ballot for the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District.
The levies will present themselves as Issue 21 and 22 on the Portage county ballot. Issue 21 is a 4-mill emergency tax renewal that will generation $4.6 million annually for the next five years. While Issue 22 is a 6.53 mill renewal that will generate $6.5 million for the next 10 years.
The $4.6 million levy was passed in 2015 and the $6.5 million levy was passed Nov. 8, 2011.
Trevor Gunmere, Treasurer of the Stow-Munroe Falls City School district said that the levies would be used for general operating purposes of the district. That includes faculty salaries, retirement, health insurance and capitol purchases for students.
According to the district’s website, there will be a zero-dollar tax increase if the renewal Levy passes and it ensures that the students will receive a good education, programs and services and helps avoid budget cuts.
“It would be detrimental if we were not to renew those,” Gunmere said. “They’re set to expire at the end of 2021 and by law, we’re allowed to ask for renewal levies 18 months prior to their expiration.”
The two levies are set to end in Dec. 31, 2021 and if passed will renew again in 2022.
