Which Ohio Colleges are Requiring Vaccinations?

With the fall 2021 semester in full swing, colleges across Ohio have created their own COVID-19 prevention guidelines. Most schools in Ohio are requiring that all students, faculty, and staff get a COVID-19 vaccine by a certain date. However, there are a few exceptions and special cases, like Baldwin Wallace University, a private university in Berea, Ohio. They are not currently requiring students and faculty to be vaccinated against COVIDovid-19.

Despite this, the school is still employing a rigorous testing regimen to keep virus numbers down, said Dan Karp, Baldwin Wallace’s director of university relations

“Currently, we are doing weekly surveillance testing of unvaccinated residential, unvaccinated performing arts students and ensemble students. And then all of our student athletes are following the NCAA testing protocol that’s established by their sport.”

Cleveland State University is also currently not mandating that all students get vaccinated. The school is “strongly encouraging” all students, faculty, and staff to get the vaccine, but are not mandating it, according to its website. They are, however, offering vaccination clinics to those who are still unvaccinated. KentWired reached out to university communications for additional comments regarding the vaccine policy, but received no response.

According to a statement issued by Manfred van Dulmen on Aug. 27, Kent State University is mandating that everyone on campus must be fully vaccinated by December 20. The university is  offering incentives for those who get vaccinated by Oct. 31 and are providing vaccination locations on campus.

Nicholas Feezle is a sophomore computer science major at Kent State University and he said the vaccine requirement had little effect on his decision making. He was fully vaccinated prior to any mandates put out by Kent State University, but he feels as though the deadline to be vaccinated at KSU might be a little tardy.

“Honestly that does seem a little late. I think that students should be vaccinated prior to being able to go to in-person classes. But that might be asking a lot for some students.”

Some other schools that are mandating a COVID-19 vaccination are as follows—more information can be found at each schools’ website:
