LGBTQ-affirming schools might be key for lowering attempted suicide rates in the LGBTQ community

 

In “The Trevor Project’s National 2022 Survey on LGBTQ+ Youth Mental Health,” it reports that 45% of LGBTQ+ youth seriously considered attempting suicide. From this survey, 73% of LGBTQ youth reported anxiety symptoms and 58% reported symptoms of depression. Dr. Myeshia Price of The Trevor Project released a statement to TV2 saying that “LGBTQ students who access LGBTQ-affirming schools report lower rates of attempting suicide.” TV2’s Shane Troyano dives into how Kent State, one of the top LGBTQ-affirming schools according to Campus Pride, might be a model for other schools. He also takes a look at what the reasons might be that LGBTQ college students are struggling this year.
