Gina Butrico, geography graduate student at Kent State, rents a home down the road. She too was concerned about safety in Kent, especially closer to campus. Butrico said she believed there are too few bike racks downtown, considering the renovations being done. She also cited noise from students’ parties off campus as an issue in the community.

Waneta Shilling, of Kent, said that, despite having general concerns about public safety, there isn’t one thing she would change about Kent. Shilling is most proud of Kent’s status as a “tree city” and the Kent-based business Davey Tree Expert Company, which has advanced across the United States and Canada.
