New Marc’s ready for the Kent community

At 7 a.m. Wednesday, Marc’s, located off of Route 261, will officially be open to the public. After long five weeks of finally putting, Doug Boldt, Marc’s regional manager said they are ready go and ready to open the doors.

The Community

Inside, the store large photos of the Kent community on the wall, including photos of the Kent Fire Department, Kent Free Library, Kent State University and more.

“We look forward to being a part of this community.” Marc’s President Kevin Yaugher said in a press release from the company on Sept. 1. “We are confident that the residents of Kent will be well served with this new location.”

Timothy Sowers, general manager said that he’s excited to be a part of the whole operation and a part of Kent community. Sowers’ also mentioned that he hopes that a lot of college students and residence of Kent come in and save money.

“We try to be a little more personal with the customers,” Sowers said.  “Any part of the community that we go to, we really try and stay involved with it.”

Sowers listed off examples such as food bank and donations that Marc’s does for the community.

Both Boldt and Sowers said that the opening will bring in more than 100 jobs to the community.

The Building

Day Armelli, Marc’s marketing director said the possession of obtaining the Marc’s began in August, after working over the summer to secure the place the former Top’s Market.

Armelli also said that they were looking for viable communities and Kent was one of them because of the growing infrastructure.

“The fact that (Top’s Market) was a grocery store was more of an advantage to us,” Armelli said.

Armelli said they made some changes to make the location fit Marc’s core layout.

The press release also stated that the Marc’s will feature fresh produce with a large selection of organics and a Cold Cut Counter that will offer sliced lunch meats and cheeses. Sowers said there will also be gluten-free items.

“Our construction team has been there making changes that fits what our core layout is — putting in our produce bunkers and setting up the cold-cut counter,” Armelli said.

The grocery store will be open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
