Ed FitzGerald Town Hall Meeting
Anchor Intro: Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald spoke in Akron last night trying to drum up support in the governor’s race. TV2’s Brian Ivey was there and shares more with us now.
FitzGerald spoke to around 30 people at theLaborer’s Hall in Akron as part of a town hall meeting. He structured the meeting like a debate with Governor John Kasich, but Governor Kasich wasn’t present.
FitzGerald mentioned different talking points that Kasich normally speaks on. FitzGerald said that Kasich is careful about what he says.
“{Kasich} says things like, I don’t know why we need right-to-work right now,” FitzGerald said.
FitzGerald then focused on some of the main issues he is involved with. He discussed his education plan. He started a program in Cuyahoga County that sets up a college savings account for every kindergartner. The same plan could happen on the state level for less than $30 million.
Most of the meeting was a Q&A session with the democratic supporters in attendance. The questions ranged from fracking to unions. He said unions aren’t perfect, but they are a good thing and help people earn a living wage.
“I’m in favor of unions,” Fitzgerald said. “I don’t trust John Kasich on this issue one iota.”
Kasich currently has a 22 point lead in the latest RCP poll for the governor race.
