Portage County future projects focus on main roads, bridges
It’s the end of the year and construction workers are finishing up projects around Portage County. But the County Engineer’s office is planning for next year’s repairs.
Federal funding comes from the County Engineer’s Association of Ohio and the Ohio Public Works Commission. Portage County, along with Ashtabula, Geauga, and Lake Counties, is represented under District 7 within the OPWC.
District 7 Representative and OPWC Loan Officer Abbey DeHart said that counties can request funds for certain projects, which are then reviewed for approval.
Garretsville – North St, Water Main Replacement ($261,100)
Kent – East Summit St Improvements ($700,000)
Ravenna – Sycamore and Mill, Water Main ($308,800)
Streetsboro – Waterline Improvements ($400,000)
Windham – Water Treatment Plant Improvements ($150,000)
“It’s pretty rare that we deny funding,” said DeHart.
Once funds are approved, DeHart is the point of contact for the districts.
Each district has a set amount of money that officials can request for projects each year.
The total allocation of funds that District 7 can receive currently is $10.925 million. $8.3 million is in grants and $2.6 million is in loans.
