Differences in Off-Campus Housing

As on-campus housing at Kent State University continues to be filled by students at an alarming rate, many students turn to off-campus housing as an alternative. Throughout Kent there are several apartment complexes and houses available for students to lease during the school year with most leases lasting through the summer. Unfortunately, many off-campus housing options book before the school year even begins and many students remain waitlisted at their apartments of choice before the current academic school year draws to an end.

We have composed a list of which apartments currently have vacancies for the 2016-2017 academic year for students who are still looking for off-campus housing opportunities and are within walking distance from campus. For those apartments near campus at full capacity, we have researched the best time to apply, pricing and different amenities offered by the complexes.

Currently leasing:

345 Flats is a brand new apartment complex located between Kent’s campus and downtown. The apartment currently has 10 bed-spaces available, all in two bedroom units. If you do not have a roommate and are looking for one, 345 Flats offers “roommate matching where we match our residents together based on age, gender, study habits and similar interest,” said Alexis Baughman, 345 Flats Leasing and Marketing Coordinator.

The complex offers studios, one bedroom, two bedrooms and four bedroom apartments ranging from $675-$900 per month. “We operate on an individual leasing basis, meaning each resident is only responsible for their own rent payments,” said Baughman. Each unit in the complex comes fully furnished with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and hardwood floors. The complex also has covered parking, a fitness center, computer lab with free printing and a media / gaming lounge and two study rooms on every floor.

University edge is located right off loop road and has 1 bed space available in a three-bedroom unit at $634 per month. The complex will begin leasing for the 2017-2018 school year in the next few weeks. “I’d definitely recommend applying and signing a lease as soon as possible because we do lease very quickly,” said Erik Rowan, leasing coordinator for University Edge.
