Entertainment near the Cuyahoga River
Tannery Park has a lot of recreational events including a kayaking organization that coasts up and down the river. The park also offers up a lot of other events, especially for children, including tennis lessons and a summer camp.
The Cuyahoga River runs almost 85 miles through Northeast Ohio. Part of that 85 miles runs in the city of Kent through Tannery Park.
As I walking through the park, I noticed many people fishing, walking, running and just sitting enjoying the weather and scenery of the park.
Tannery Park is filled with my different activities for the community to interact with. Inside the park, there is a board that posts all of the different upcoming activities in the park. Some of these activities includes tennis lessons, hula hooping, summer camps and much more.
The park also offers up a kayaking adventure that goes through Kent State. This group coasts up and down the river every weekend during the spring, summer and fall months.
Sadie Norton is Supervisor for this event and is one of the main people responsible for organizing trips. She has a unique perspective about this adventure.
With the weather finally starting to warm up, this is the prime time for the organization to coast down the river.
The weather plays a big part in how the group decides when to kayak. Norton says that if the waves are too high the group will cancel trips. Depending on how the weather is, you could have a completely different experience when coasting along the river.
With the park being so busy, there may be a concern of safety. The park is open to any and everyone in the city of Kent.
Over the phone, I spoke with Administrative Lieutenant Mike Lewis about the safety of the park. He said that typically the park is very safe. He and the rest of the police department go past and through the park as a part of their patrol.
The group will be back on the river this weekend for their second trip of the season.
