Plans for Parking Meters Raise Concerns for Some Downtown Kent Businesses

Finding a parking spot in downtown Kent can be difficult, so the City is installing parking meters to help free up parking spaces. But some downtown businesses don’t think the meters will benefit business. TV2’s Michael Bratton shows us one business’ concern with the incoming parking meters. As Susel mentioned, the City doesn’t plan to make any money off of the new parking meters. However, if the meters do generate money the funds will be presented to Kent City Council where it will decide how to apply the funds back into the City. Possible Changes in Store for the Old Kent Municipal Court Property

The new Kent Municipal Court on East Main Street has been open for less than a year now. But the building and property that the old court sits on remains closed and unused. TV2’s Michael Bratton tells us what could possibly be in store for the land in the future. As Susel mentioned, the City is creating “request for proposal forms” to be sent out to developers. She says after proposals come back from developers the City will then present them to city council which has the final approval of what’s to become of the old municipal court building and land.
