Portage County City Schools is facing several questions upon the release of the Ohio Department of Education’s report cards this year, including the gap closing of each school. The gap closing measures student achievement of students regardless of their race, income, ethnicity or disability. The highest gap closing belonged to Aurora City Schools, who also has the highest median income. The lowest gap closing belonged to the Ravenna City School district, whose median income is significantly lower. What causes these drastic differences between the gap closings in Portage County City School districts and how can they be fixed?
