StoryMap JS Tutorial
What is StoryMapJS?
It’s a way to tell stories with maps by implementing text, graphics and maps all in one place.
How to make a StoryMap:
1. Visit https://storymap.knightlab.com/ and sign in using your Google account and then select “Make a storymap now.”
2. Next, click “new” and choose “map.”
3. From there, you have the option of titling your storymap.
4. On the left hand side, select “upload and image” and then credit or caption the image.
5. On the right hand side, type a headline for your photo and then add a description. You want this to provide the most important information to the reader (ex: lede, body paragraph, conclusion, etc….).
6. To get a specific point on the map that is above the command boxes, simply type in a city name or address. You will then be able to configure the map accordingly (zoom, scroll, etc…).
7. Next, click the “+” title “add slide.”
8. Repeat steps 4-7 as many times as needed.
9. Once you have finished, click the “share” button in the upper right hand corner and copy the embed code so you will be able to import your storymap into WordPress. However when embedding, make sure you are in the text editing mode and not the visual one.
