Portage County Jail Inmate Programs

The Portage County Jail is keeping its inmates busy. Sheriff David Doak noticed the inmates playing the same board and card games over and over again and wanted to change that. With the help of Major Dale Kelly, Sheriff Doak created an inmate work program and the newest, an inmate sewing program. Inmates said that these programs have helped them gain useful knowledge and skills. The programs are also helping the jail’s budget. The inmates clean, paint, mow, sew and garden. City Council Gives The OK For Parking Meters

  Anchor Intro: Parking meters in Downtown Kent have been the talk of the city. Tv2 reporter Alaina Altieri has the details on the finalized approval from City Council.   The City of Kent held a special committee council meeting Wednesday night.  One of the major topics discussed was the approval of the 225 parking meters in downtown Kent. The meters will have a two-hour parking limit and costs $1 an hour. Drivers can also pay smaller coins for quicker visits. Portage County Jail Tax Levy

Anchor Intro: The Portage County Jail is seeking to make improvements to its women’s housing unit. TV2 reporter Alaina Altieri has the information on this year’s Portage County Jail tax levy.              Election Day is nearly one month and this is especially important for Sheriff David Doak and the Portage County Jail. Kent State University Awarded Grant
